Our 5 major senses carry a great deal of memory. Certain songs transport us to meaningful moments in time. The taste of Pad Thai floods a traveler’s mind with the streets of Bangkok. The smell of early morning summer breeze instantly lands me on the diving board at my childhood public swimming pool, where for nearly 10 years I rode my bike each morning for dive practice.
Our Scampiversary is actually December 1, 2016, so we’re approaching 3.5 years on the road! Check out some of our memories in the latest video.
If you’ve ever been in a 13ft Scamp Trailer in the dead of winter with a wood stove burning inside at full capacity, you’ll know why we haven’t gone south. Winter has become our favorite season. Short days and cold temperatures mean more rest, better sleep (yes, we sleep so much better in the cold) and aside from an occasional plane or highway in the distance, we experience complete quiet and solitude. No one wants to do what we’re doing so we have the place to ourselves.
On my first ever overnight backpacking trip with friends, Ali and Stacy, I documented my journey, the food I brought, egos we encountered and my day-to-day thoughts from my trail journal.
I put over 60 hours of work into this video. Because it’s not directly related to the Scamp, I expected a portion of my viewers to watch, and hoped that one day it might catch a stream of hikers or outdoor enthusiasts. Within its first two weeks on YouTube, the video has hit over 120k views and rising. I can’t believe it!
